Artist's CV

Artist's Bio

Born in Germany and raised in the United Kingdom, Whitney Muwazi is a student currently studying for a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in London, UK. Furthermore, this CV contains contact details, an artist statement, education, and solo/group exhibitions, plus more exciting projects Whitney has been involved in. As an artist in the making, she does not shy away from learning, assimilating feedback, adapting, developing, and experimenting. Whitney also delves into studio installations, whereby a serene aura is recreated through an elegant presentation.

Artist Statement

“Fine Art has always been comforting and relaxing, allowing freedom to occur in my mind. It made me fall in love with delving into a part of myself yet to be discovered. Similarly, filmmaking and photography (under the Moving Image category) are well-loved forms of art I have incorporated into my studio practice.

While African art is part of my identity and subtly drives my creations, my main objective within my practice is to add a sense of stillness and serenity to the notion of making Fine Art.

I have experimented with various materials such as newspaper, clay, cotton, thread, tin foil, acrylic paint, colourful fabrics, dried flowers, jewellery, beads, and shop bought furniture (from charity shops as well as Ikea) to add to a serene living room aesthetic within my studio.

Regarding Moving Image, I have delved into photography, film and editing within my practice; concentrating on creating visuals that allow for tranquil/quiet moments through soft spoken voiceovers.

Furthermore, the themes I worked around in my practice included diaspora, culture, meaning behind materials, tranquility, stillness, performance through sculpture, calming colours, smell, and serene installations that welcome the audience.”
